The Illustrated London News, vol. 40, no. 1148, p. 577.

June 7, 1862

Mr. Sumner presented to the United States' Senate a petition 700 feet long, and signed by 15,000 women, praying for the abolition of slavery.

The first shipment to New Orleans on the news of its capture was made by a Boston firm. It consisted of 1000 tons of ice.
