The Illustrated London News, vol. 47, no. 1344, p. 518.

November 25, 1865

New York city has a population of 722,560. In 1860, before the war, the population was 813,669. The population has therefore diminished nearly 100,000. In 1860 the female exceeded the male population 10,711: the excess is now 44,587.
