January 14, 1865

Mr. Edward Watkin, M.P., president of the Grand Trunk Railway of Canada, had an interview yesterday week with Mr. Cardwell, at the Colonial Office, with reference to the recent raids from Canada, and to the consequent threatened proceedings on the part of the American Government to adopt a stringent passport system for passengers, and a rigid examination of goods passing between the States and the British North American Provinces.
