[The Largest Church in the American States]

The Illustrated London News, vol. 45, no. 1292, p. 614.

December 17, 1864

The largest church in the American States, St. Paul's and St. Peter's Cathedral at Philadelphia, was consecrated on the 20th ult. It has bean the work of eighteen years' labour, and has cost nearly 500,000 dols. Three archbishops, ten bishops, the mitred Abbot of St. Vincent's at Latrobe, and more than 200 priests entered the cathedral during the processional chant. The ceremonies were attended by about 8000 people.
