The Illustrated London News, vol. 45, no. 1273, p. 159.

August 13, 1864


The following telegram has been received through Mr. Reuter's office:--

America.--New York, Aug. 1.--On the 30th ult. General Grant blew up a Confederate fort at Petersburg. He then assaulted and carried a line of Confederate intrenchments. An entire regiment was destroyed, together with the fort. The battle was still progressing on Saturday at noon.
