[The following is the Form of Pledge]

The Illustrated London News, vol.41, no.1171, p.431.

October 25, 1862

The following is the form of pledge given by Federal prisoners when liberated on parole:--"We, the undersigned, solemnly pledge our sacred word of honour that we will not, during the existing war between the United States and the Confederate States of America, bear arms, or aid or abet the enemies of the Confederate States, by information or otherwise, until exchanged or released."
